“It is not craft as ‘handcraft’ that defines contemporary craftsmanship: it is craft as knowledge that empowers a maker to take charge of technology.” Peter Dormer, The Culture of Craft.(Manchester, Manchester University Press, 1997)
Christopher Pearson has taken a quite literal approach to reinterpreting Morris’s ideas by extracting elements of original Morris imagery, and combining them with digital animation to create ‘live’ wallpaper. This is a beautiful exploration of several of the elements of design that Morris himself was interested in; a study of nature and looking at past traditions, with which Pearson combines a skilled, and innovative approach to new technology.
